Nick nació en Ohio 1950. A los diecinueve lo enviaron a Vietnam. Volvió distinto. Durante años trabajó como bombero forestal, apagando incendios en zonas boscosas del norte. Era de las pocas cosas que le hacían sentir bien. Seguía sintiéndose fuera de lugar. No entendía el ritmo ni las prioridades del mundo que tenía delante. Se fue alejando. Ahora vive en una casa en la montaña, rodeado de bosque. Sale en moto por carreteras secundarias y habla poco. Prefiere el sonido del viento a cualquier conversación.

Nick was born in Ohio in 1950. At nineteen, he was sent to Vietnam. He came back changed.
For years, he worked as a wildland firefighter in the forests of the north. It was one of the few things that made him feel right. He still felt out of place. He could not understand the pace or priorities of the world around him, so he gradually withdrew from it.
Now he lives in a house in the mountains, surrounded by forest. He rides his motorcycle along back roads and rarely speaks. He prefers the sound of the wind to conversation.

Nick ble født i Ohio i 1950. Som nittenåring ble han sendt til Vietnam. Han kom tilbake forandret.
I mange år jobbet han som skogbrannmann i skogene nordpå. Det var noe av det få som fikk ham til å føle seg vel. Han følte seg fortsatt malplassert. Han forsto ikke tempoet eller prioriteringene i verden rundt seg, og trakk seg gradvis unna.
Nå bor han i et hus på fjellet, omgitt av skog. Han kjører motorsykkel på småveier og sier lite. Han foretrekker lyden av vinden fremfor samtaler.
